After I had started my business journey, I was doing pretty good up until it was time to upgrade. So I can honestly say that I know exactly how hard it is to want to take your business to the next level, but have no idea how to even start. So needless to say, I found out what I didn’t like the hard way.
Yup, I was that new event planner that had no idea that I didn’t even like event planning. I was very good with organizing, putting out fires and just pulling together nice events that wowed my clients. The problem is that I wasn’t happy. It wasn’t that I didn’t like planning, it was that I didn’t like planning for others. There was just too much emotion and indecisiveness involved, not to mention I was attracting cheap clients that literally drove me nuts.
It was time for a turn in my business journey and to turn away from being an event planner…
I had to do something and I mean…FAST if this was going to ever really take off because now the doubt was settling in. I had to focus on what services I was providing that I actually enjoyed. Yup, you guessed it, I was providing them all. Planning, decorations, balloons, treats, organizing and it goes on and on. I was actually going to get into florals next. This was a major problem because I was starting to become a jane-of-all-trades.
I decided to take a break and do a business analysis so that I could make some changes. I started by eliminating the services that I didn’t like doing and followed by eliminating services that I liked….but wasn’t too good at. I kept doing this until I was able to narrow down my services into things that were enjoyable, profitable, marketable and that I was actually good at.
It was right here that I discovered I was in love with draping, but the plot for my business journey thickens. Although others enjoyed my work, deep down I wasn’t satisfied. That deep feeling in your gut when you don’t think your work is good can really eat away at you. I just knew that, if given the right tools, I could be amongst the best.
But guess what? No one was providing tips, tricks and resources like we do at The Posh Academy, so that prompted another frustrating business journey. But the fact of the matter is that I found my passion! I found my niche and you can too.
