Chances are, you’ve been there before. You’re sitting at your computer, staring at a blank screen (or piece of paper), and the only thing going through your head is “I have nothing to say.” Maybe it’s writer’s block, maybe it’s just a case of the Mondays, or maybe you never learned how to properly plan your content. If it’s the latter, never fear! I’m here to teach you the power of a content plan.
Before you start mapping out your content, it’s important to take a step back and think about your overall goals. What do you want to achieve with your content? Once you have a clear idea of your goals, you’ll be able to create a content plan that is aligned with them.
For example, let’s say your goal is to increase brand awareness for your business. In that case, your content plan would focus on creating high-quality content that will reach a wide audience. Conversely, if your goal is to generate leads, your content plan would focus on creating targeted content that will attract potential customers.
Why You Need a Content Plan
If you’re anything like me, your mind is always racing with new ideas. The problem is, when it comes time to sit down and actually write something, those ideas are nowhere to be found. That’s where a content plan comes in handy. Having a plan gives you a roadmap to follow so you can avoid getting lost in the weeds (or, in this case, the blank screen). Plus, if you ever do find yourself struggling for something to say, all you have to do is refer back to your plan, and voilà! Instant inspiration.
How to Create a Content Plan
Creating a content plan is easy—all you need is a notebook or a blank document on your computer. Once you have that, simply brainstorm a list of potential topics you could write about. These are your content buckets. Once you have your list of topics, start narrowing them down by identifying which ones would be most relevant for your intended audience. Lastly, prioritize those topics by identifying which ones would be most helpful/informative for your readers. And that’s it! You now have a road map to follow whenever the dreaded case of writer’s block strikes. Trust me, following these simple steps will save you hours of frustration down the road.
Your mind is brimming with ideas—but when it comes time to sit down and actually write something, all those great ideas seem to vanish into thin air. Don’t worry—it happens to the best of us! The solution is simple: create a content plan. Having a list of potential topics on hand will give you a roadmap to follow so you can avoid getting lost in the weeds (or staring at a blank screen) when inspiration strikes. So next time you find yourself facing writer’s block, refer back to your content plan and get writing!
