Hey guys,
Today’s topic is procrastination. I know we are all guilty of it at some point in our lives. Maybe it was when you decided to start on that Science project at 9:00pm the night before it was due or when you decided to watch Netflix up until 10 minutes before you had to leave for dinner. This habit is totally human, but it can be very detrimental especially if you’re a solopreneur. If you procrastinate, there is no one left to keep you on track. Things will pile up, deadlines will be missed and you are going to feel like you’re drowning.
Today I’m going to be sharing with you my 5 strategies for combatting procrastination, finding your motivation and loving you business again.
1. Grab a partner!
Keeping yourself accountable can be really tough because it’s very easy to talk yourself into being okay with the fact that you procrastinated…again. This is why you need an accountability partner. Maybe this is a project manager, business partner, trusted friend, or a colleague. You just need someone, other than yourself, who is waiting to hear an update on that thing you were supposed to accomplish. Telling someone else that you procrastinated is often uncomfortable and if that partner is a blunt person…it’s even worse! This is often plenty of motivation to get you up and at ’em!
2. Visualize where you want to go.
Your mind is a very powerful tool and can take you to places that can’t even imagine. One of the best exercises that you can do to find your motivation is to visualize the future that you want. Is it being able to quit your 9-5? making 6 figures? being able to pay for your child’s college?
Whatever it is, visualize it often. That will remind you why you have to get these tasks done. Sometimes even just putting it on paper where you can see it often is very moving. Vision boards are a great tool for this! When you have this in place, procrastination tends to go out the window!
3. Harness your fears.
Sometimes procrastination stems from the fear of getting out of your comfort zone. But remember, no matter how long you procrastinate….that task still needs to get done. Getting out of your comfort zone is when you start to grow. Many times you’ll find that there was no reason to be scared in the first place.
4. Prioritize.
This may sound like a no-brainer, but prioritizing your tasks allows you to get the BIG stuff out of the way and knock off the small things with the limited amount of energy that you have at the end of the day. Always start your mornings off with the most important and/or biggest tasks and work your way down the line. This helps you to leave procrastination at the door when you walk into your office.
5. Hire a team member.
I know that it’s hard, but it’s okay to admit when you need help. In fact, it can be really healthy for you. The biggest companies in the world are not run by just one person because that one person would be losing their mind with all the tasks that need to be done! Decide on what’s holding you back and then look for someone to take that off your plate.
Procrastination is just one of the signs that you need to hire a team and I’m hosting a FREE webinar on February 24th at 8 PM EST for those solopreneurs who feel the need to do everything themselves, even if it prevents their business from growing. Reserve your seat today.
