Hey guys,
I gotta say it feels good to be back on the blog sharing my favorite tips with you every week. This month, I’ll be focusing on setting goals for your business and I don’t just mean a New Years resolution. Setting goals is a very important part of business and life. Without goals, you can feel like you’re just floating through life without a purpose or a path. Knowing where you want to go and making a plan to get there motivates you to take a step towards your future every single day.
It doesn’t really matter how big or small the goal is. What matters is that you made it and you’re taking steps to achieve it. After all, success doesn’t just fall into your lap. You’ve got to work for it! That’s one of the things that keeps me grounded.
I get it. Setting goals can seem daunting and even pointless. I know that I have written down many goals in my lifetime that I never got to. I have definitely made New Year’s resolutions that I didn’t even come close to realizing. Sometimes when I’m feeling low, I like to look to some examples of people that I admire who set goals.
Successful People Who Set Goals
Like, for example, did you know that Beyoncé keeps a photograph of an Academy Award by her treadmill where she sees it every day? She says it’s great motivation to keep working towards it. It must have worked because in 2013 she won an Oscar for the theme song to the James Bond movie, Skyfall!
Or, how about Michael Jordan ? Although he is now one of the best professional basketball players of all time, he wasn’ always. Did you know that he was rejected by the high school basketball varsity team because he was too short? He was even told he would never play at that level! So, what did he do? He set a goal to prove them wrong. Michael trained even harder and visualized his name in a professional locker room.
Okay so this one really baffled me when I found out, but did you know that Walt Disney was laughed at by many bankers when he proposed his idea for the Disney World theme park? I guess the jokes on them because Disney is now one of the biggest companies in the world!
It’s pretty hard to believe that JK Rowling used to depend on food stamps to survive. When she brought her Harry Potter books to publishers they wouldn’t even talk to her. It wasn’t until the daughter of one of the publishers took the manuscript off the desk and fell in love that she got her shot!
Being INTENTIONAL helps a business grow.
So you’re not perfect? Big deal, neither are they! Sometimes the hardest thing in life is telling yourself to get up and get going in the morning. You have to know what you want and fight for it because success is not given to the lazy. If you’re not sure of the viability of your business, why not make it a side hustle? Test it out and then get going!
Last thing here because yall know I love feedback! Who inspires you to set goals? What goals have you set? Let me know in the comments below! Looking for a bit more guidance on how to take your business to the next level? Check out my business coaching membership!
