Hey guys,
Today, I want to talk about taking a vacation (and how to do it without watching your whole business come crumbling down from afar). Us business owners often work 50…sometimes 60 hour weeks keeping our business going. I know that many of you run a business and work a 9-5 too. This is all very commendable and I see you out there grinding! But, this is a quick recipe for burnout. Every single one of you needs time off! It could be to just chill, enjoy a drink, laugh with friends, or just be you for a while.
So many business owners get wrapped up in a business model that only makes money when they trade hours for dollars. But, this is what leads to a 90 hour work week! If you want to be able to have days off or even take a vacation here and there…you need to find ways to keep the business running without you. Here are my 3 secrets on how I do it!
Secret 1: Create Passive Income
Passive income is money you earn without trading hours for it. It is created with a one-time investment that yields a constant stream of income. This can be from digital products, affiliate marketing, and other avenues too. By creating multiple streams of income (outside your main source) you allow yourself the flexibility to take time off and still have money coming in. After all, worrying about money is the last thing that you want to do while on vacation.
Secret 2: Automate what you can.
Planning ahead allows you to really breathe when you’re away from your computer. By using things like Facebook Business Suite to auto-schedule social media posts and Kartra to auto-schedule emails you can automate things. This allows them to keep going, keep engaging, and allows you to be there without actually “being there”. You can also still make sales while you’re gone because you’ll still be engaging with your audience. This allows you peace of mind in knowing that even though you are on vacation, you aren’t MIA for your audience.
Secret 3: Hire a Virtual Assistant
I know that the thought of hiring someone can really make your head spin. Some people worry that they can’t afford it and others think that the investment will just take money out of their pockets. But, in most cases, hiring an assistant does the opposite! Think about how much time you currently spend doing basic admin tasks like answering emails, follow-up calls, calendar management, social media and even responding to comments. These are all things that can be easily taken care of by an assistant, so that you have more time to work on the big stuff (or catch a wave in Hawaii).
Now, I am about to take a vacation myself and I know that I really couldn’t do it without the team that I have. I struggled for a very long time to gather the right people for the job, learn to delegate and switch around responsibilities as needed.
