High visibility is the cornerstone of any successful marketing plan. To say that you have high visibility means that you have a large number of potential customers. Think of visibility like a net, the bigger it is… the more fish you catch (or in this case customers). In order to boost visibility, you need to focus on three things.
1. Become an expert in your industry.
2. Place your products in front of people who will actually buy them.
3. Network with other professionals to help grow your brand.
Becoming an expert in your industry.
No matter what you do or what you sell, your knowledge is your greatest asset. Everyone learns different things in their line of work from the best streaming kit on Amazon to how to save hundreds of dollars on a beginner’s Pipe and Drape kit (just sayin’). Leveraging your knowledge as a reason to trust, listen to and hire you is a great tool to boost sales, engagement and success. In order to become an expert in your industry, you have to start talking to strangers. Yes, you heard me right…strangers! Sign up to speak to beginners in your field, write online courses and do live Q&A’s. By talking to people outside of your circle, you are casting a wider net. Each person who likes a post, attends a Q&A or takes one of your courses is now a potential customer for life. In addition to that, if you play your cards right their circles are also opened up to you.
Place your products in front of you people who will actually buy them.
When it comes to casting your net, you need to do it strategically. Going back to our fishing metaphor, if you cast a big net in an empty pond you’ll catch nothing. But, if you do your research and cast a smaller one in a better pond…you will probably have more fish. As a business owner, it can be really tempting to set ads for anyone within a 30 miles radius or pass out cards to people at expos without even talking to them first. Trust me when I say that you are wasting yourself by doing that and it’s a really good way to get discouraged FAST.
Boosting visibility also means identifying your target market, the ideal person to buy your product/service. Narrow this down as much as you can by thinking about where they are located, their average income and their lifestyle. For example, let’s say you offer tutoring at $25/hour. Your ideal customer is probably not a lower income household with no kids. Once you have a target market in mind, it makes it much easier to make business decisions such as which blog should I write for? Which expo should I set up a booth at this year? Which social media platform should I prioritize? By keeping your target market in mind, you can boost visibility and sales because your product will be in front of those who have a higher chance of actually buying it.
Network with other professionals to grow your brand.
Something that is widely overlooked is networking. In addition to trying to talk to potential customers, making strategic business relationships is a great way to boost sales. Attend a business mixer or join a local small business group. You’d be surprised how many there are all over the world. These mixers are for exchanging ideas, partnering up for sales and more. So, always bring a card when you leave the house. You never know where your next big break is hiding.
In addition to networking with local small business owners, Influencers can be a great way to boost visibility. An influencer is someone who has a large and loyal following on social media. Many influencers have a large following across several platforms and are happy to share the spotlight with your product. One of my favorite places to find influencers is the app Collabor8. This app allows you to flip through thousands of influencers generally don’t work for free, so expect to trade free product or money for their services.
At the end of the day, visibility is the key to creating a large and loyal following of past, present and prospective customers. Once you have that down, the world is truly yours.
